Batteries & backup

Keep the power on through every cut

Power cuts are part of life in Kerala’s hills and rural areas. A well-designed battery keeps your lights, fans, fridge and Wi-Fi running.

Plain-language comparison

On-grid, hybrid or off-grid?

Three kinds of solar system. The right one depends on your power supply and what you want the system to do.

Battery chemistry

Why we use LFP (lithium iron phosphate) batteries

LFP is the chemistry we recommend for Kerala homes. Here is why.

Safer chemistry

LFP is thermally stable and far less prone to overheating than other lithium types.

Many more cycles

Built for daily charging and discharging over many years, unlike lead-acid.

No maintenance

No distilled water, no acid fumes, no corroded terminals.

Usable capacity

More of the rated capacity can be used without harming the battery.

Hilly and rural areas

Backup designed around your essential loads

In Iritty, Wayanad and other hill areas, cuts can be frequent. We do not just sell a battery; we plan what it runs.

  • A separate essential-loads circuit for lights, fans, fridge, Wi-Fi and TV
  • Written estimate of backup hours for your loads
  • Automatic switchover when KSEB supply fails
  • Solar recharges the battery the next morning

Battery retrofits for existing systems

Add an LFP battery to your on-grid system, or replace ageing lead-acid inverter batteries with lithium. No subsidy or paperwork needed.

Battery questions

Batteries and power cutsWill solar give me power during a power cut?

Only if you have a battery. On-grid systems switch off for safety when KSEB supply fails. A hybrid system with an LFP battery, such as Wartens Home+, keeps your essentials running.

Is the subsidy available for hybrid systems?

Subsidy eligibility for hybrid systems is confirmed during survey. It depends on the current scheme rules and how the system is connected.

How long will the battery run my home?

It depends on what you run. We plan an essential-loads circuit and give you an estimate in writing. Air conditioners and water heaters are usually left off backup.

Can you add a battery to a system another company installed?

Usually, yes. We check your inverter and wiring first. If your inverter cannot take a battery, we explain the options, including a hybrid inverter upgrade.
